"I would say the Leapster L-Max is more clear and easier to comprehend, plus they have better games."

"L-Max...Much better, games and has more stages so that it lasts longer. My son is three and has one which he plays all the time. From what I've seen of the V-smile its more for the younger side, the L-max goes much older in age the only problem would be if they are too young."

Q: "What's the difference between Leapster, Leapster 2 and L-Max?"

"dude the Leapster l-max is WAAAAY better! it's sleek and shinny. it uses a Rechargeable battery, you can plug it into the t.v., and play from there, the screen is so much clearer, you can take it anywhere! it has digital art! the Leapster 2 is like the first one, but it's more comfortable. it now plugs into a USB cable, and you can download your kids’ progress."

"I think the only main difference is that the L-Max can be connected to your TV so the games can be seen by the whole family. I bought one for my son for Christmas and it definitely worth the money. I think also that you can play Leapster and L-Max Games on the console but you may not be able to play L-max games on a Leapster console (hope that makes sense!). The L-Max is great for home or travel, we take it everywhere with us and it keeps him occupied in the car."

Q: "What is the difference between Leapster cartridges and L-Max cartridges?"

"Luck would have it though I worked at Toys 'R Us last year. The L-Max cartridges only work on L-Max hardware but the L-Max hardware is backwards compatible with standard Leapster cartridges, so it can be assumed that if you were looking into getting the console that it would be smart of you to choose L-Max hardware even if its a little more expensive."
